Estimated Homes Flooded During Ike
BATON ROUGE – So far, parish officials are reporting to the Governor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness (GOHSEP) approximately 24,774 homes flooded as the result of Hurricane Ike. While these are estimated and preliminary numbers, here is the breakdown:
Jefferson: 2,500
Lafourche: 24
St. John: 100
Terrebone: 15,000
Calcasieu: 1,500
Cameron: 3,000
Iberia: 1,000
St. Mary: 450
Vermilion: 1,000
St. Tammany: 200
Tangipahoa Parish: 60 homes, 4 businesses and 1 fire station
St. Bernard Parish: 2 homes and approximately 20 mobile homes
Damage assessments are ongoing at the local, state and federal levels.
